Very serious post here. I’ve got some pics of stuff around Christmas, but the batteries in the camera died, and I need to change them before I can upload. I do have a couple of “fun post” ideas, but the following is something I’ve been thinking about and want your input on.

1 Corinthians 11: 2-16 NKJV

2 Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. 3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. 6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. 12 For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God. 13 Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering. 16 But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

Yes, I know some people do – the Amish and Mennonites immediately come to mind, as do Catholic Nuns, but why don’t we, as Christians, do this anymore? I really would like a good discussion on this, not just pat answers like “because we quit doing it.” I mean, God – through Paul – is instructing us to this, right? So why don’t we wear head coverings anymore? I also don’t want any “that was then, this is now” answers. That doesn’t jive well with a God Whom we are taught is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. (And the rest of the chapter goes on to talk about The Lord’s Supper, and we still do that.)

And something that goes with this too – we are also taught to Pray Without Ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That would seem to me to be a reason for wearing a head covering all day long, not just during church services. (Don’t know a specific denomination, but I think there is at least one that does this.) But how do you handle this at night? Wear a night cap to bed? (I’ve prayed myself to sleep countless times….) Or, even more so, what about at bath time, in the shower? I don’t know about y’all, but I do some of my best praying in the shower.

So please, share your thoughts, beliefs, convictions! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

Edit: As a background on me, I grew up Southern Baptist, later attended a non-denominational Pentecostal church, then an Assemblies of God church, and am now back in the Baptist church I grew up in. I think of myself as Bapti-costal ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have never in my lifetime worn a head covering, but came across this in a recent time of my (not-as-daily-as-it-should-be) Bible Study. And I’ve been pondering on this ever since, until now, where you see it in my blog, open for discussion by anybody who happens on it!
